Testimonials

I like that I have my independence in my home, but that I always have the assistance of my caregivers if I need help with anything. ILHS makes sure that I have healthy meals, my medical needs are monitored and taken care of, and that I get out into the community safely and on a regular basis. ILHS is a fun, loving, and caring environment that has allowed me to make long-lasting relationships with both the staff and the other Individuals I live with.

I love my home! My favourite thing is the great food. I have lots of fun with my staff and we stay quite busy. We have parties, which are the best! I have my own phone line and I love staying in touch with my family and friends. I had a great time at Operation Trackshoes and my brother joined me in the game. I love baseball and we go to see the Harbour Cats in the summer. My sports teams are the Blue Jays and Canucks. The best times of the year are my birthday when I have these parties and Christmas when I get to spend lots of time with family and friends.

I like living in The Heathers because it does not feel like an institution, and I have my own space and I have access to transportation like BC Transit and HandyDart. I can plan my own activities and make my own choices. Sometimes we get together as a group for brunches, suppoers and movies and can socialize with other residents. I like the set up at The Heathers and I expect to be here for quite a while.

The staff support me every day in assisting me to be as independent as I can. Currently I go on many outings on my own. But within my home, I am assisted with many household tasks, including cooking and housework, and assistance with my personal care. I am comforted to know that I have such a caring team of individuals working with me each day, so that I can be assisted to live life the best way I know how. I have always deeply appreciated the connections with the staff, I have been able to build through the years. I am happy to call The Heathers home and I look forward to being here for many years to come!

I have been living at Falmouth House for 30 years and it is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Every day when I come to work, I look forward to improving people’s lives with a day plan, physical and emotional support, and listening to their needs. I’m able to do what I love, while also supporting others. It’s important to work for people that care about you. ILHS is a respectful work environment filled with friendly people. The staff is always looking for innovative ways to make it a more enjoyable workspace for everyone.

- Beatriz, Residential Care Worker

Something I look forward to every day is being able to engage with the tenants and other staff members. ILHS is filled with great people, great communication, and you always can find help where needed. I really like to help and care for people. Being able to make a person’s life better and more fulfilling has been my experience at ILHS. The ILHS workplace has been created to enhance your abilities for the better.

As a very young and nearly graduated RCW, I walked into a job fair and handed my resume to the very first table I saw. Now, nearing 20 years, ILHS has not only been an organization that helps support people to live independently and with purpose, ILHS has become an extended family. They have consistently supported the workers to support the individuals in care. There have been times were we have all laughed so hard we cry, and times where tears float up because of long ago memories of pure butterfly moments. As staff, we are living and helping side by side with the Individuals we support and for this, I am truly grateful for that red door that opened all those years ago.

- Michelle, Residential Care Worker

I feel like I’m on vacation when I go to the B&B. I get to have a break and so does my Mom. The people there are nice. The staff are friendly and supportive. I like talking to them; they treat me with respect. It’s always fun at the B&B. I visit with friends, go to the mall, Special Woodstock and throw parties! We even went to a Pow Wow.

What keeps me working at ILHS is the ability to be so involved with tenants, caring for them, getting to know them better, and making their life easy and enjoyable.

- Vijay, Residential Care Worker

James and our family very much appreciated the first rate care he received every day from the staff at the Feltham House. James never missed an opportunity to tell us how much he loved being a resident there.

- Steve, James’ Brother and Guardian

I love working at ILHS because it’s a wonderful, supportive workplace with fantastic co-workers and tenants. It’s such a great feeling to know that I’m part of helping to make someone’s life a better one. It sure helps one sleep at night.

- Lorinda Staples, Finance Director

What I love most is doing activities and outings with the tenants, seeing the joy, wonder and excitement. Especially if it’s a first-time experience for individuals - Disneyland was a blast! The work is fulfilling, and the fact we have so many long-term employees reflects that.

- Jamie, Residential Care Worker

ILHS is an extension of my HOME, where respect, commitment and support were shared.
